Meeting at the Ghana High Commission in Highgate

We were delighted to have a highly informative meeting with Kofi Addo, Head of the Trade and Investment Section (right) and Afua Gyasiwa Gaisie, Head of the Education Section (left) at the Ghana High Commission in Highgate.

Our business discussions were part of our meticulous planning for our first UK Boarding School Exhibition in Accra which will take place from 17th – 19th May 2019.

We will also be working in partnership with the UK’s Department for International Trade and I am looking forward to visiting Accra in October to meet schools, families, ministers and business leaders.

This year, Ghana will be one of the world’s fastest growing economies, according to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

British businesses are playing a major role in supporting and partnering with significant Ghanaian government initiatives.

The boom is fuelled, quite literally, by the discovery of vast offshore oil deposits about a decade ago.

However, the country doesn’t plan to just rely on the extraction of petroleum.

The government is already investing revenues into education, agriculture and manufacturing (such as cocoa based products), to diversify the economy.

One of the most influential Ghanaians of recent times was Kofi Annan, the first black African to become UN secretary-general, who the world has been remembering this week.

Ghanaians are leaders and entrepreneurs across the world, and we were told in our meeting that the UK is one of the most popular destinations.

We have already registered interest from a number of UK boarding schools about our event in May.
